Kathleen Curtin - Curtin Law LLC

Attorney and Practice Information:

Kathleen is a sole practitioner who concentrates in Qualified Domestic Relations Orders (QDROs) providing personalized and cost effective support to attorneys and clients. QDROs are court orders that allow retirement, profit sharing and pension plans to pay benefits to someone other than the individual participating in the plan. Without a QDRO, the plan may not recognize the right of a spouse, former spouse, child, or other dependant to receive that benefit. QDROs are often confusing and time-consuming to prepare, and the process to get them approved can be frustrating and futile if not done properly. Attorney Kathleen Curtin has garnered extensive experience working on QDROs through the Legal Aid Society of Metropolitan Family Services, Prairie State Legal Services and with other Illinois-based attorneys. Kathleen’s experience has allowed her to become proficient in the myriad retirement benefits, including: public and private pensions; qualified and non-qualified plans; defined benefit plans and defined contribution plans; employee stock ownership plans; federal pension plans under the civil service retirement system (CSRS) and federal employee retirement system (FERS); thrift savings plans (TSPs); military retired pay; state, municipal, and local pension plans; railroad pensions; and 401(k), 403(b), 457(b) and IRAs. Kathleen was presented the Lake County Bar Association 2009 Volunteers Lawyers Award and 2011 Wayne Flannigan Award for her dedication to providing services to the indigent members of the Lake County community.
