William Bast has more than 25 years of experience, his areas of technical expertise include
structural engineering and design, building failure investigations, litigation support, building
façade evaluation, remedial repair of distressed buildings, and restoration and preservation
of old and historic structures. His work experience includes residential and office projects,
commercial and retail facilities, and adaptive re-use of existing structures.

Mr. Bast will provide an overview of structural engineering including both design and
forensics. He will discuss the collapses of the Kansas City Hyatt Regency, the Hartford Civic
Center, I-35 bridge. He’ll provide insight on the earthquake in Haiti, why that earthquake
caused so much death and destruction, and what The National Council of Structural
Engineers Associations (NCSEA) is trying to do with regard to uniform structural engineering
licensing.
